What’s so fun about working ridiculously long hours, against tight, unreasonable deadlines and under a mountain of stress, while traveling too much and never seeing your family, friends and loved-ones? Because even with all that, the advertising life actually is fun.
It’s fun and incredibly rewarding when you come up with that key strategic insight that solves your client’s problems. Or the message strategy that drives the creative brief that fuels the big idea that breaks through the clutter and resonates among the people it’s meant to. It’s fun when it works and gets results. It’s fun working in a non-traditional office environment with interesting people. It’s fun to see your work out there among the masses. It’s fun to launch a new product, brand or service that no one has ever heard of before and then to have it become mainstream. And it’s fun when you get to do a little pro-bono work occasionally that makes a difference.
I've lived and worked in Europe and the USA, worked on some of the largest, well-known brands in the world, owned my own advertising agency in San Francisco, managed a few others, and got to work with some incredibly creative, smart, talented, and yes, fun, people over the years.
Eventually I decided that I needed to get back in-tune with the creative and strategic planning parts of the job I’ve always loved the most. I also realized that working ridiculously long hours, against tight, unreasonable deadlines and under a mountain of stress, while traveling too much and never seeing your family, friends and loved-ones isn’t so fun anymore without a little balance. So after taking a break in 2010 to finish writing my first book, and becoming a new dad (holy crap), I decided to go independent as a strategic marketing/brand consultant full-time and haven’t looked back since.
I’m extremely proud of the work I’ve done over the past thirty plus years. Check out some of my favorite work and case studies, read my bio and get in touch if you think we’d be a good fit and could potentially do some great work together. Let’s have some fun.
